1. What profession did you want to achieve as a child?
Boss in Australia, of what was not important at the time.
2. You were active in both roles for many years: What was the biggest change from the role of CEO of a hotel group to the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors/ Hospital Board?
Both areas require a great deal of leadership. The change from a line organization to an expert organization is very challenging for me in that a lot of convincing has to be done first. The pace of project implementation in the hotel industry is probably still different today.
3. How does hospitality in psychiatry differ from classic hospitality in hotels?
The guest consciously goes to a hotel and enjoys or makes use of the hospitality services. The patient has a different focus, but this area can support recovery as a healing environment.
4. What challenge in your career so far has taught you the most?
Juggling different expectations, avoiding escalation, and still making clear decisions.
5. What do psychiatric services look like in the future?
Right now, there are long waiting periods for psychiatric treatment. In the course of outpatientization, more day-clinical offers are emerging. Whether and in what form prevention/salutogenesis will also be emphasized in the coming years remains to be seen.
6. What fascinates you about the Swiss healthcare system?
The extremely high complexity in its entirety.
7. If you had one wish for the Swiss healthcare system, what would it be?
That today's very good healthcare system remains fit for the future with innovations and tackles the hesitant implementation of innovations more courageously.
